Few know the pope inaugurated another crib in Paul VI Audience Hall at the beginning of December. Volunteers of “Gruppo Presepio Artistico Parè di Conegliano” created this manger.

The Nativity scene is full of references to Veneto, a Northern region of Italy. The figures stand almost four feet tall and are carved entirely by hand. Additionally, the lighting system has a low environmental impact thanks to the LED lights, which are adjustable depending on how much light is necessary.

POPE FRANCIS
“The Nativity scene is a simple and wonderful sign of our faith that we must not lose. It's so beautiful that parents pass it on to children and grandparents pass it down to grandchildren. It's a genuine method of spreading the Gospel in a world that seems afraid to remember the true meaning of Christmas.”

Pope Francis insists on the importance of Jesus' crib during Christmas festivities. On Dec. 1, he signed the apostolic letter “Admirabile Signum” in the Marian sanctuary of Greccio. This document explains the significance of the tradition of the Nativity scene.
