Benedict XVI's secretary admitted to hospital due to severe kidney problems


Msgr. Georg Gänswein, the right hand of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, has been hospitalized in Rome “with serious kidney problems.” The information was published by the German edition of Catholic News Agency.

According to this news agency, the Prefect of the Papal Household was admitted into a health center on Friday, Sept. 11. At the moment, there are no further details available about the archbishop's condition.

Since 2003, Gänswein has worked with the now pope emeritus as his personal secretary. In 2012 he was appointed Prefect of the Papal Household, a position he still holds today.
