New ambassador of Dominican Republic gives Pope Francis symbolic staff

The new ambassador of the Dominican Republic was moved to tears during her first meeting with Pope Francis.

“They accredit me as the extraordinary ambassador and plenipotentiary of the Dominican Republic to the Holy See.”

“Welcome.”

As a gift, Eunisis Vásquez gave the pope this wooden staff.

“It's from La Isabela, where the first Mass was celebrated.”

The pope joked when he gave her the documents from his pontificate.

“This is a library, please don't say anything.”

The pope also prayed for the Dominican Republic with the ambassador, her family and her collaborators.

Then he met with her privately to discuss political issues.
