Benedict XVI renounces to his brother's inheritance

Benedict XVI is said to have renounced the inheritance left to him by his brother Georg, who died on July 1 in Regensburg. These are mainly family photos, books and his musical scores. The house where he lived was not his property.

Sources close to the pope emeritus have pointed out to the German press that Benedict prefers to keep his brother's memories "in his heart" and that the inheritance will be passed to the Holy See.

Benedict XVI is now the last living member of the Ratzinger family.

His older sister, Maria, died in 1991. The three brothers were very close. In fact, in June the 93-year-old pope emeritus left his Vatican retreat to go to Germany and say one last goodbye to his brother.
