Pope Francis prays for victims of floods in Germany

Pope Francis has communicated his closeness to victims of the severe floods in western Germany, which have killed more than 80 people, and left over 1,000 missing.

In a letter to German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin assured him of the Pope's prayers for all those affected, especially the dead, their loved ones, the displaced, the wounded and those who have lost their livelihoods.

The floods have also affected Belgium and the Netherlands.
