Pope Francis personally met the woman known as “napalm girl,” and the photojournalist who, 50 years ago, turned her into an anti-war icon. He did so after his General Audience, which took place as the war in Ukraine continue to dominate international headlines amid the Pope's active efforts to bring piece to the region.

Vietnamese-American photographer, Nick Ut won the 1973 Pulitzer Prize for the historic image taken in a village north of Saigon while Kim Phuc, then only nine years old, fled from U.S. bombs.

Phuc, who know lives in Canada, came to Italy for the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the career of the photographer whose work transformed both of them into symbols for peace.
