Efforts to build fraternity between Jews and Christians must be consolidated amidst rising antisemitism, said Pope Francis.
To mark the 75th anniversary of a French organization promoting friendly relations between Jews and Christians, the Pope told them that dialogue between the adherents of these two world religions must continually be pursued in the face of rising religious persecution.
POPE FRANCIS
The job is not done, and I encourage you to persevere on this way of dialogue, of fraternity, and joint initiatives. Because this beautiful work of creating bonds is fragile, it is always to be taken up and consolidated, especially in these hostile times when closed and rejecting attitudes are becoming more numerous, also with the worrying resurgence of antisemitism, particularly in Europe, just as violence against Christians.
In November, the EU's Fundamental Rights Agency reported that online hate against Jews greatly increased during the Covid-19 pandemic and after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The Jewish Christian Friendship organization of France was founded as one of the first bodies dedicated to improving relations between Christians and Jews immediately following World War II.
