“We look forward to receiving your visit very soon.” These promising words ended the statement released by the team of the new President-elect of Argentina, Javier Milei.

The statement hints that Pope Francis may soon make the long-awaited visit to his home country, although no official dates are listed.

President-elect Javier Milei had recently apologized for his past comments about Pope Francis, that included calling him an “imbecile” and a “communist.” In fact, some sectors of the local Church in Argentina have openly opposed Milei and even organized a Mass to make reparations for the President-elect's statements.

It is unworthy of a candidate to say the things that are said.

It appears that in recent months Milei has lowered or has been forced to lower the tone of his statements about Pope Francis. The statement released about the telephone conversation was cordial and clearly stated that the Pope communicated with Milei to congratulate him on his election and to express his best wishes for the country. Pope Francis also promised to send him a blessed rosary as a gift.

The Pope's congratulatory call to Milei seems to shut down any rumors that spectated that his potential future visit home to Argentina was dependent on election results.
