Pope Francis walked with the help of his cane to a meeting with the members of the Focolare Movement. The movement's President, Margaret Karram, rushed to greet him.

Focolare was founded by a woman: Chiara Lubich. She started it in 1943, during the second World War. In times of turmoil, the founder wondered about the existence of an “ideal that would not collapse.” She found the answer in God, and from this decision, the Focolare movement for unity was born.

The Pope reminded them that unity is urgent in the present times, where war is a threat in many parts of the world.

POPE FRANCIS
Today, unfortunately, the world is still torn apart by many conflicts and continues to need craftsmen of fraternity and peace among people and among nations.

Pope Francis encouraged them to continue in their work for fraternity and ended his speech by reminding them that in war “everyone loses.”
