During his meeting with a group of communicators working in France, Pope Francis made the announcement that he would not read his prepared speech.

POPE FRANCIS
I would like to read the whole speech but I have a problem. I have a bit of bronchitis, and I can't speak well. If you are not offended, I will give you all a copy of the speech. All right? Forgive me. I will give it so all of you can have it, but I have such a hard time talking with this. Thank you for your understanding.

The Pope gave the group a few words of encouragement, thanking them for their work in communication.

This is not the first time Pope Francis could not finish a speech.

POPE FRANCIS
Dear brothers and sisters, good morning and welcome. We will continue with the catechesis but I am still not well with this flu and my voice is not good so Monsignor Ciampanelli will read it.

In 2023, Pope Francis was diagnosed with bronchitis twice: once in the spring when he was hospitalized for three days to receive antibiotics through an IV and again at the end of November. But the second time, it was not necessary for him to go to the hospital.
