Pope Francis addressed an Italian association of craftsmen at a time when the industry is declining. The number of artisans in Italy continues to lower and has fallen by over 300,000 in the last decade.
In his address, the Pope emphasized that machines replicate but it is people who truly invent.
Your activities enhance human ingenuity and creativity.
While applauding their work and dedication to beauty, Pope Francis also requested that they remember the most marginalized.
Do not be discouraged in offering jobs and do not be afraid to include the most fragile groups, namely young people, women and migrants.
May your hands, your eyes, your feet be signs of a creative and generous humanity.
After his address, Pope Francis extended a blessing to the artisans and asked that St. Joseph, a craftsman himself, may protect them and their families.
