On April 28, Pope Francis will visit the Italian city famous for its gondolas. This trip to Venice will begin in Giudecca at a women's prison. There, the Pope will greet the nearly 80 inmates and he is scheduled to read a speech.
He will then visit the Church of St. Mary Magdalene to meet with artists participating in the Venice Art Biennial exhibition, where the Holy See is also participating with its own pavilion.

It is with great joy, therefore, that we welcomed the news of Pope Francis' visit to the Pavilion. It will be a historic moment since he will be the first pope to visit the Venice Biennial, which clearly demonstrates the Church's desire to consolidate a fruitful and close dialogue with the world of arts and culture.
Pope Francis will also meet with young people from Venice and the Veneto region at the Church of Santa Maria della Salute. He will then go to St. Mark's Square to celebrate the Eucharist before returning to the Vatican.
