Pope Leo XIV expressed his closeness to the people of Taiwan following the havoc from Typhoon Danas, which struck the island regions with great force.
Through the director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, it was announced that “the Pope is praying for all those affected and has asked the Apostolic Almoner to provide concrete aid to the affected population.”
The typhoon left a trail of destruction across various coastal regions of Taiwan. Authorities have so far confirmed two deaths and over 500 injuries, many caused by landslides, debris, or accidents during the storm. Due to the strength of the cyclone, more than 3,000 people were evacuated as a precaution.
