The pope hosted his usual Wednesday general audience and gave a talk on the importance of rest and silence for peace.
After the audience conclude, the pope met with Bill DeWitt, President of the St. Louis Cardinals’ baseball team, and his wife, Ira DeWitt, Founder of SAINT Candles. After listening to the Pope’s audience, they had the opportunity to meet with the Holy Father, and to present him with special gifts.

What a spiritual experience. I gave him a candle, I asked him to bless a rosary, and my husband gave his a St. Louis Cardinals jersey.
Mr. DeWitt gifted the Pope with a custom-made Cardinals’ jersey, complete with “Pope Leo XIV” inscribed on the back and invited him to say Mass at the Cardinal's home stadium. Ms. DeWitt presented the Pope with an Our Lady of Guadalupe Candle, a special edition candle from SAINT Candles.

Yeah it was fun because I noted that he was a White Socks fan, and then he instantly said, “Yeah, but my father was a Cardinals fan.” So there was a definite moment there where we connected with what we were
doing.
The Pope and I share something in common. We both help manage Cardinals.
This is one of several times that that Pope Leo XIV has shown his appreciation for the sport of baseball. Previously, he caught and signed a baseball from the American faithful.
