The Vatican’s anti-abuse commission is calling for victims to be supported financially, for example, by covering the cost of psychological care.

The Church must take responsibility for these costs as part of its support for victims/survivors and their families.

Although this is already a reality in some dioceses, the commission notes that much remains to be done. They say this aspect is important in the healing process for victims.

This was one of the conclusions of their annual report. In it, they stress the importance of providing comprehensive care for victims: they must receive psychological, spiritual, and also financial support.

To achieve this, the commission proposes that dioceses train their staff. These workers must receive professional legal, psychological, and financial training, because victims of abuse need support in all of these areas.

This commission was created by Pope Francis in 2014. Its mission is to raise awareness throughout the Church about the problem of abuse, though its guidelines are not necessarily binding.
