During a heavy downpour, inside the Bata prison, an unusual event took place. Amid the sound of rain and the tense atmosphere of the place, the prisoners began to sing and move to the rhythm of a prayer chanted in the presence of the Pope.
The moment stood out because of its contrast: a penitentiary known for its harshness and complaints on its conditions for years was briefly transformed into a space of collective expression, with voices speaking of repentance, faith, and the desire for freedom.
These are the lyrics they all sang:
Pray for our sins and our freedom.
We repent for everything that has happened in our lives; many of us have been deceived by the devil and his bad influences, but we have hope of regaining our freedom.
We are believers and we know we will never be forgotten, according to the law, according to the will of God!
We are believers and we know we will never be forgotten, according to the law, according to the will of God!
Our Holy Father, we give you thanks! Pray for our sins and our freedom!
