The celebration of Mass on the Feast of Corpus Christi is traditionally followed by a procession of the Blessed Sacrament.
It is customary for the pope to celebrate this feast at the Vatican, but not this time. This year, Pope Leo XIV is celebrating Corpus Christi in Madrid as part of his fourth Apostolic Journey to Spain.
Lined up along both sides of the street were children who made their First Communion this year, members of consecrated religious life, and the cardinals, archbishops, and bishops of Madrid.
Together with all of them, the pope carried the monstrance with the Blessed Sacrament in a procession through the streets of the city.
1.2 million faithful gathered in the heart of Madrid to celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, and they threw flower petals and colored sawdust along the path of the papal Eucharistic procession as Pope Leo XIV passed by with Christ in the Eucharist.
