Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, starring Jim Caviezel, returns to the big screen.

The film, first released in 2004, made more than 612 million dollars worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Christian film in history.

The re-release will take place from September 10 to 17 this year in the United States, and will be available fully remastered in 4K with Dolby Atmos sound.

In addition to the new version, the screenings will include will include a sneak peek of The Resurrection of Christ, the long-awaited sequel.

The new production will expand the story beyond the crucifixion and depict Jesus' resurrection, as well as the events that took place between his death and his return to life.

The project has grown to the point where it has been split into two films, with release dates set for May 6, 2027, and May 2028.

Mel Gibson made historical realism a top priority throughout the production. The Passion of the Christ was filmed entirely in Aramaic, Latin and Hebrew, an unusual choice for a major Hollywood film.

With a production budget of nearly 30 million dollars, the film received three Oscar nominations for cinematography, makeup and its musical score.

It became the highest-grossing religious film of all time, leaving a lasting mark on cinema and paving the way for a long-awaited sequel.
