From Castel Gandolfo, Pope Leo XIV prayed for the victims of the devastating flooding that affected Nepal and Tibet. Hundreds of people have died and thousands are still missing.

POPE LEO XIV

Let us pray for those who have lost their lives, for the injured and the missing, for their families and for the rescue teams. May acts of solidarity help to ease their suffering and bring the necessary aid to the people.

As is customary following major natural disasters, the Pope has also sent financial assistance through the Office of Papal Charities.

Pope Leo XIV also remembered the victims of a massacre in Haiti, where an attack carried out by armed gangs left at least 47 people dead. The Pope prayed for the victims.

POPE LEO XIV

From Haiti, we are receiving tragic news of the horrific massacre carried out in Kenscoff, where many people have lost their lives while others have been kidnapped. I express my solidarity and prayers for the victims and their families, and I call for the immediate release of all the hostages.

The Pope also prayed for peace, recalling a quote from Saint Augustine, whose feast day was celebrated on August 28.

He ended by thanking the security forces who helped make his vacation in Castel Gandolfo possible.
