The mayor of the city of Metz, François Grosdidier, welcomed the Pope at the entrance to the city’s cathedral and presented him with an unusual gift: an antique wooden tennis racket. It is well known that tennis is a sport played by Leo XIV, who thanked him for the gift with a smile.
He also presented him with a “Beatus” Egg, a special edition from the traditional Émaux de Longwy house, an iconic artisanal manufacturer from the region. Only 200 of these pieces were produced. It features the silhouette of the Pope against a golden cross, while the reverse bears a reproduction of the famous rose window of Metz’s Saint Stephen’s Cathedral.
He also presented him with a medal featuring the image of the cathedral.
