Pope Leo XIV has received in audience Faustin-Archange Touadera, President of the Central African Republic, who recently attended the United Nations General Assembly.

Touadera has been president since 2016. He is accused of limiting civil freedoms in his country, among other things.

During the Audience, the Pope and the President discussed the social, political, and humanitarian situation of the Central African Republic.

After which they exchanged gifts.

After decades of conflict, the Central African Republic is one of the poorest countries in the world. A fifth of its population is internally displaced or refugees in neighbouring countries.
