It's official: Pope Leo XIV will travel to Latin America in two weeks. Doctors have given him the green light following his lung surgery to go on tour from November 6 to 17 in Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru.

Dr. Luigi Carbone confirms that the Holy Father’s recovery after the surgery continues [...]. Based on his current clinical status [...], there are no contraindications that would prevent him from undertaking his upcoming apostolic journey to Latin America as planned. [...] the Holy See Press Office confirms that the Apostolic Journey [...] will proceed according to the programme previously published.

This long-awaited visit was put on hold, and there were even doubts as to whether the pontiff would be able to travel. Just a few days ago his medical team had advised him not to go to Assisi, where he was scheduled to travel by helicopter on October 27.

They argued that it was a precautionary measure, since very little time had passed since his surgery on October 13 at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, where the lower lobe of his right lung was removed.

The surgery to remove the cancer was a success. Pope Leo XIV will not need any additional treatment. In fact, over the past week, he has continued with his daily schedule, which is filled with private and public meetings at the Vatican.

For Pope Leo XIV, this trip to Latin America will be very special, especially when he sets foot in Peru, where he served as a missionary and bishop. The pontiff shared this on his social media accounts.

It fills me with joy to return to the continent where I have spent so many moments of my life. May this trip be an opportunity to open our hearts to one another, strengthen our fellowship as brothers and sisters, and renew our commitment to proclaim the Gospel with joy.

In addition to Peru, there is also great anticipation in Uruguay, his first stop. Tickets for the vigil in the capital have already sold out.

There is also great anticipation in Argentina, where Pope Leo XIV will walk the same streets as his predecessor, Pope Francis. Everything is practically ready for what will undoubtedly be one of the greatest moments of Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate.
