Sundays in St. Peter's Square have now returned to complete normalcy following Pope Leo XIV's lung surgery.
The Pope turned his attention to ending the conflicts in Yemen, where the UN warns that the civilians can’t leave easily and that the blockade is turning a military offensive into a daily emergency.
POPE LEO XIV
I am following with concern the grave humanitarian situation in Yemen, particularly in the city of Taiz, where the population is suffering from a lack of food, water, and medical care. I make a heartfelt appeal for hostilities to cease and for the Yemeni people and all the peoples of the region to be guaranteed the right to live in peace.
The city of Taiz has been cut off for twenty days due to fighting between government forces and the Houthis, the armed group that controls the capital.
He also spoke about Jordan, a Muslim-majority country, where an attack on an Orthodox church left eight people dead and forty injured.
POPE LEO XIV
I offer my prayers for all those who were killed and wounded last Friday in the terrorist attack against the faithful at St. George’s Orthodox Church in Hamoud, Jordan. My thoughts are with that community and with the entire country, which is known for peaceful coexistence and respect among different religions.
Tuesday, October 27, marks the 40th anniversary of the gathering convened by John Paul II, which brought together representatives of different religions to pray for peace.
The Pope was advised not to attend as a part of his recovery, but he continues to advocate for a peace that is both disarmed and disarming.
