The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican dicastery responsible for doctrinal matters, is making changes.

Its second highest ranking official, Giacomo Morandi, is the new archbishop of Reggio Emilia, in northern Italy. He became a member of the Congregation in 2015, and he was its secretary for more than four years.

He worked on the documents explaining the Catholic Church's views on blessing gay unions, accessibility to vaccines, and problems related to euthanasia and assisted suicide.

ABP. GIACOMO MORANDI
“I think that if we only talk about situations emotionally, which is important, we still can't get to the bottom of them. Often, the expression, 'to have compassion,' communicates ideas that fail to bring out the truth.”

The Pope is now looking for a replacement to take over Archbishop Morandi's former role in this important Vatican dicastery.

Its mission is to promote Church doctrine so that it is understood and lived out, and to provide guidance to address doubts that arise.
