These images might be familiar to you. Every December 8th, the same scene is repeated.

Early in the morning, Italian firefighters gather in Piazza di Spagna. They are the first to honor Mary on the day the Church celebrates the solemnity of her Immaculate Conception.

In December, they get a "bird's-eye view" from above. However, in August, they have opted for a "fish-eye view".

Instead of above the Roman rooftops, some members of the Italian fire department have traveled to the coastal region of Liguria.

There, they encountered the Christ of the Abyss, a statue located at a depth of almost 60 feet. It was an opportunity to carry out maintenance work on the statue.

Made of bronze extracted from medals, bells, and naval material, the sculpture stands at eight feet tall. It was submerged on August 22, 1954, as a tribute to the deceased divers. The position of the hands is a call to peace - peace that cries out not only from the surface of the earth, but also from the depths of the ocean.
