When Pope Leo XIV received four different major religious institutions at the Vatican, he encouraged them to read the needs of their time, just as their founders had previously observed their societies.
POPE LEO XIV
Your founders were people capable of observing, evaluating, loving and then leaving, even at the risk of great suffering, even at the cost of losing their own, to serve the brothers in their real needs.
After finishing his speech, Pope Leo went into the crowd to meet many of the religious and even received artwork from some of them.
Later, Pope Leo XIV met with cardinals from the Mexican Episcopal Conference and continued to receive religious art.
As a surprise to Pope Leo, the Mexican Cardinals brought plates, ponchos, and art pieces with them, all depicting the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
One of the art pieces had a prayer and blessing inscription for Pope Leo on the back that read “Our Lady of Guadalupe blesses and protects Pope Leo XIV.”
Perhaps the most exciting gift of all was the Our Lady of Guadalupe poncho presented to Pope Leo. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patroness of Mexico and the Americas, including Pope Leo's previous home country, Peru.
