Pope Leo XIV began the third day of his apostolic journey to Angola by visiting a residence for the elderly in the city of Saurimo. There he recalled that caring for the most vulnerable is a clear indicator of the quality of a country’s social life. “We owe them gratitude, because they have faced great difficulties for the good of the community.”
The Pope also noted that Jesus, too, liked the company of his close friends: he went to Peter’s house in Capernaum and visited Mary, Martha, and Lazarus in their home in Bethany, where he was received with familiarity.
