Leo XIV Receives the Grand Master of the Order of Malta One Day After the Feast of Its Patron Saint

Pope Leo XIV received the Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Fray John Dunlap, in audience at the Apostolic Palace.

The meeting was particularly significant as it took place one day after the feast of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of the Order, and formed part of the ongoing institutional relationship between the Holy See and the Order of Malta.

According to information released by the Order of Malta, the conversation focused on the Order’s humanitarian, spiritual, and diplomatic work around the world, current international crises, as well as the humanitarian needs arising from conflicts and emergencies.

The Grand Master presented Pope Leo XIV with a silver medal dedicated to the Order’s volunteers who served during the Jubilee. In return, the Pontiff gifted him a Marian icon depicting the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus.
