It is now official: the episcopal ordinations carried out by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X have led the Lefebvrists into a new schism with the Catholic Church.
Pope Leo XIV's repeated appeals to halt the ordinations went unheeded. As a result, Pascal Schreiber, Michael Goldade, Michel Poinsinet de Sivr, and Marc Hanappier have been ordained as bishops for the Society of St. Pius X. They are not, however, bishops in communion with the Church of Rome, despite the Society's return to full communion in 2009 under Benedict XVI.
