The Higher Committee for Human Fraternity has launched the 2021 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity with a global call for nominations.

It aims to honor the legacy of the founder of the United Arab Emirates, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, by recognizing people around the world who embody through their work their commitment to human brotherhood. The awarded will receive one million dollars.

“The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity is an international award that celebrates people who are on the ground working across divides to achieve the previously impossible. To bring people together to advance humanity and, by doing so, to advance peace.”

Created in February 2019, this award was made to mark the historic meeting in Abu Dhabi between Pope Francis, and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmad al-Tayeb, when they co-signed the historic Document of Human Brotherhood.

“A document considered by many as one of the most important declarations of the 21st century. It is a great example of the decisive and proactive leadership that has the power to truly change hearts and minds.”

Pope Francis and the Grand Imam al-Tayeb were the first honorary co-recipients of the Zayed Human Brotherhood Award. This is the first time it has been opened to nominations. The nominations process will close on Dec. 1 and the winner or winners will be announced on Feb. 4, 2021.
