"This change had a huge impact, because in a fortnight 14 days were gone.”

An exhibition in Rome displays some documents authored by one of the key figures of this reform: the German Jesuit Christopher Clavius.

This mathematician taught scientists like Galileo Galilei and changed the way astronomy worked forever.

"He was the first person who said that math should also be used for astronomical observation.”

VALENTINA NICOLUCCI

"It's the first time that these documents are shown to the public. They belong to the Clavius Archive of the Pontifical Gregorian University.”

In this book, Clavius wrote the dates of the major religious festivities up to the year 5,000. Using math, he could predict that on 2015 Good Friday would take place on April 3.

The exhibition will be open till February. It also features several manuscripts of Jesuit Angelo Secchi and Galileo Galilei.
