The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. "Because we must. Because we must. It's a responsibility if we really believe that we are created in the image and likeliness of God.”

Donna Orsuto is the director of the Lay Center at Foyers Unitas. Women she says are often the ones on the ground, directly helping. Whether it be victims of sex trafficking, helping child soldiers heal or educating on all levels.

"To not stereotype women. It's important not to put women on a pedestal. To say that women just like men can contribute to peace.”

Progress has been made in both society and in the Church, but Orsuto says much still needs to be done.

"Nothing about us, without us and I think that's where we need to be in the Church too as we make decisions. FLASH 03 02 Let the voice of women be heard and let women have a role in some way in leadership.”

On several occasions Pope Francis has been quite vocal about advancing the need to advance the role of women in the Church and give them a more prominent presence.
