Pope Francis: No people is criminal and no religion is terrorist

February 17, 2017. Pope Francis has sent an important message to the Meetings of Popular Movements that is taking place in Modesto (California). The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

Pope Francis celebrates the liturgy on the first World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

2015-09-01

Pope Francis led the first World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, in St. Peter's Basilica.

Various passages from the Bible were read, such as the narration of Creation in Genesis. He also read fragments of the encyclical "Laudato Si” and the Gospel.

The Preacher to the Papal Household, Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, delivered a Homily about Creation, which he said was a gift from God that every human is responsible for.

"Man is not the absolute master of all other creatures. You have to realize everything that you have received. The Parable of the Talents finds its primary application here: The earth is the talent that together we have received and we have to realize.”

He also explained that care for nature, as the Pope says, must begin with a person changing his own attitude.

"What's the point, for example, of condemning those who pollute the atmosphere, oceans or forests, if I did not hesitate to throw a plastic bag, which will remain for centuries, into the river or the sea?”

The Pope established this day of prayer on August 10th, and it is being celebrated at the same time that the Orthodox Church does so. The Pope hopes it will serve to remind people that care for Creation isn't a secondary aspect of the Christian life.
