The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

The government of the Order of Malta will elect the successor of the Grand Master in April

Pope names a Special Envoy for Medjugorje

< style> February 11, 2017. Pope Francis has asked Henryk Hoser, S.A.C., bishop of Warsaw-Prague (Poland), to go to Medjugorje as Special Envoy of the Holy See. According< g> the Vatican, "the mission has the aim of acquiring a deeper knowledge of the pastoral situation there and above all, of the needs of the faithful who go there in pilgrimage, and on the basis of this, to suggest possible pastoral initiatives for the future”.

Pope Francis schedule for this week: Maradona and a new Jesuit Superior General

Pope Francis starts off his week with an eye on the General Congregation of the Jesuits and the imminent election of their new Superior General. Pope Francis will be the first person, outside the General Congregation, that will know the name of the 31st successor of St. Ignatius.

On Wednesday, the pope will celebrate his weekly General Audience, in St. Peter's Square, at 10 a.m., where he will be joined by thousands of pilgrims from all over the world. 

It is expected that, at some point during the day, the pope will meet with some of the soccer stars that will be in Rome to play in the Match for Peace, like Maradona or Ronaldinho. The match will take place on Wednesday evening at the Olympic Stadium.

On Sunday, the pope will celebrate Mass and lead the canonization ceremony that will recognize seven new saints in the Catholic Church.

After the ceremony, at noon, the pope will lead the Angelus prayer in St. Peter's Square with thousands of pilgrims from all over the world.
