New technology in Rome takes tourists 2,000 years back in time

Technology is making its appearance in the world of museums, and one of the most ancient monuments in Rome, Ara Pacis, is spearheading an innovative group that is breaking new ground in this area.

Ara Pacis is one of the masterpieces of Ancient Roman art, but it was impossible to see it in all its splendor until today, thanks to augmented reality.

Museo dell'Ara Pacis (Rome)
"Used for the first time in a monument in Rome, it sheds light on the historical connections of the monument; the purposes the monument served, applying, through a 3D reconstruction process, a new layer to the monument itself.”

Thanks to these goggles, the viewer is able to see Ara Pacis as it was 2,000 years ago, when the Roman Senate commissioned it to celebrate the return of Emperor Augustus from wars in Hispania and Gaul.

The bright colors give the monument a different feel, more impressive, remarkable and lifelike.

The technology of augmented reality is opening many doors for museums and monuments all over the world. Ara Pacis is pioneering a new trend in the world of museums that will help people admire and better understand the treasures of the past.
