Today is the last day of the G9 meeting, the group of cardinals that advises the Pope on Church governance and Curial reform.

Meeting in closed sessions, they are currently reviewing the structure of Vatican departments. According to the Vatican spokesperson, 'they have spoken particularly about the Pontifical Councils for the Laity and the Family and, more specifically, the contribution and role of laity, married couples and women.'

Although they are already members of these departments, the current constitution of the Vatican Curia expect the laity to have advisory and non-executive tasks in Church governance. ;

For months they have been in search of a way to give them more responsibility, especially in the departments that pertain to their own issues.

The spokesperson clarified that 'no decisions have been made' in this regard.

The nine cardinals and the Pope have also exchanged views on the work of nunciatures, and on the procedures for appointing bishops.

They return home with plenty of ideas and pending projects. Their next meeting will be in two months, September 15-17.
