It was 26 years ago, that the world watched the Berlin Wall crumble. More than just a wall, it was a symbol of a failed ideology. After years of resistance, the beacon of communism and the Cold War, fell to its feet. ;

The Wall was built in 1961 to stop people from fleeing from East Berlin, where Communism was the rule of law. It would finally come down on November 9th, 1989. ;

The Catholic Church, specifically Pope John Paul II played a key role in the fall of that Wall. It was a day that marked the end of a dark chapter filled with decades of oppression. For John Paul II, the issue was personal, especially after growing up under the Communist rule in Poland. ;

Even the Soviet Union's Communist leader at the time, Mikhail Gorbachev said that the collapse of the Berlin Wall would have been impossible without the influence of John Paul II, who among other things, collaborated with Western leaders, most notably U.S President Ronald Reagan. ;

They were direct and forceful with their message, and the world heard it loud and clear. ;
