Indonesia's new ambassador to the Holy See, Antonius Agus Sriyono, presented his credentials to Pope Francis at the Vatican.

This is an important meeting because the Pope is trying to strengthen ties with countries in the Muslim world and Indonesia is the largest of them. It has more than 250 million inhabitants and nearly 90 percent of the population is Muslim. Catholics barely reach 3 percent. ;

The ambassador was until now Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia. During the meeting he introduced his wife and embassy staff, some of them Catholics. The Pope gave the ambassador a copy of two his important papal documents, Evangelii Gaudium and Laudato si 'and he said goodbye to him and his wife asking in English to pray for him and God bless.
