Pope Francis greets Peruvian “Pelé,” Teófilo Cubillas

At the conclusion of a fun, yet deep encounter with cloistered nuns, Pope Francis exited the Shrine of the Lord of Miracles, where he found himself with legendary soccer player Teófilo Cubillas, the Peruvian "Pelé."

Cubillas won the Copa America in 1975 and made it to the quarterfinals of World Cups in Mexico (1970) and Argentina (1978). He was considered one of the best soccer players of his time.
