Christmas is one month away and preparations to decorate St. Peter's Square for these important days is already underway.

The lighting of the 21-meter high tree provided by the Diocese of Concordia-Pordenone will take place on December 7.

It will be decorated with energy-saving lights to limit the environmental impact. The protection of the environment is one of Pope Francis' major concerns.

Additionally, during the lighting of the tree there will also be the presentation of 25 square meter Nativity scene. It comes from the Italian city of Jesolo. This year, the sculptures will be made of sand following the tradition of the Dolomites.

Both will be on display in the Square until January 13, 2019, the feast of the Baptism of the Lord.
