Pope Francis: Drug traffickers are death traffickers. Don't be afraid to call them that

Pope Francis met with dozens of experts to fight against addictions and dependencies. All of them participated in a congress organized by the dicastery of Integral Human Development directed by Cardinal Turkson.

“The title of our conference was Drugs and Addictions: an Obstacle to Integral Human Development.”

The congress covered the issue of addictions from an holistic point of view. When speaking of the drug problem, the pope spoke harshly.

“It is the duty and responsibility of governments to bravely confront this fight against the death traffickers. Death traffickers: we must not be afraid to call them that.”

Pope Francis also stated that the Church must respond to new dependencies arising because of the internet. He grieved that these are chains dragging down many young people.
