For some people declaring oneself to be Christian is at times considered embarrassing, especially among young people. This is even more so the case when members in the Church have caused scandal.

However, the pope reminded a young French group that this is not the first time the Church has gone through difficult periods.

POPE FRANCIS

“Indeed, the current context is not easy. This is also because of the painful and complex issue of abuses committed by members of the Church. However, I would like to repeat to you that today being a Christian is no more difficult than in other times of the Church. It is different, but not more difficult. Therefore, take advantage of this pilgrimage to rediscover that the Church, which you are members, has been walking for 2,000 years sharing the joys, hopes, sorrows and anxieties of humanity.”

Pope Francis asked young people to concentrate on being people who generate dialogue, union and fraternity; to be 'bridge builders.'
