These people work for the Vatican postal and telecommunications services. They see to it that telephone calls and letters sent by the pope reach their destination.

Pope Francis met with them and greeted the man overseeing their activity, Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello.

'Your Holiness.'

'Have you lost weight, are you on a diet?'

'No, no.'

'You work too much.”

The staff were accompanied by their families. Pope Francis thanked them for the work they do. Thanks to them, the pope from Rome is put in contact with the rest of the world.

POPE FRANCIS
“Moreover, through your precious work, every day many people 'reach' the pope and he, also through his collaborators, 'reaches' many people. This communicative exchange knows no distances; it responds to the innate need of individuals to create human contacts; and above all, it enters all homes serving the rich and the poor.”

The pope also pointed out that because of their work with the public every day they are in contact with many people from all over the world. This is why he asked them to be able to give a Christian witness during their working day.
