Pope Francis to send special Christmas letter on Sunday

This Sunday the Catholic Church begins Advent, the preparation period before Christmas. Pope Francis will inaugurate it in a special way. He announced how on Wednesday during the General Audience.

I will visit Greccio to pray in the place where the first Nativity scene was made by St. Francis of Assisi. I will send a letter to all believers to help them understand the meaning of the nativity scene.

What St. Francis did in the 13th century was a live Nativity scene which allowed people to participate more actively in Christmas. The pope will visit this small Italian town on Sunday afternoon.
