The pope participated in a conference organized by the archdiocese of Los Angeles. He asked to overcome indifference toward the suffering caused by the pandemic.

POPE FRANCIS
“We need to be like the Good Samaritan, which means letting myself be struck by what I see, knowing that suffering will change me, and it's with the suffering of another that I must commit myself.”

The pope explained that although the pandemic has caused a lot of suffering, it has also brought out the best in many people.

POPE FRANCIS
“The testimonies of generous and freely given love that we have witnessed during these past months—so many testimonies—have left an indelible mark on the conscience and fabric of society, showing us how necessary closeness, care, accompaniment and sacrifice are to nourish human fraternity.”

The pope's message was for the Religious Education Congress. But since California was also celebrating youth day at the diocesan level, the pope communicated this message to them.

POPE FRANCIS
“You, the youth, be the poets of a new human beauty, a new beauty of fraternity and friendship.”

The event was held online, and guest musicians were given the task of using their music to fill the gap left by social distancing.
