August is when popes typically return to the spotlight after vacation. The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis will resume his weekly audiences with pilgrims, yet due to the summer heat they will be moved from the St. Damasus courtyard to the Paul VI Audience Hall. It will be the first chance for pilgrims to see how the Pope is recovering up close.

Last month, Pope Francis spent over a week in the hospital after undergoing intestinal surgery.

POPE FRANCIS
I thank all of you. I have felt your closeness and the support of your prayers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

The Pope appeared in good spirits after being discharged from the hospital, although he looked noticeably weaker.

Popes typically reduce their official activities during the month of July, making it an ideal time for Pope Francis to recover from his elective surgery.
