Pope Francis addressed a few words to Paralympic athletes during his General Audience.
POPE FRANCIS
'I greet the athletes and thank them for their witness of hope and courage. They show how a commitment to sports helps overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.'
After his catechesis, he stopped to meet a group of athletes in attendance. Among them was Gianluca Palazzi, a wheelchair basketball player and Athletica Vaticana's first Paralympic athlete.
“We're from Athletica Vaticana, the Paralympic team...”
Palazzi gave the Pope a t-shirt.
In 2019, Athletica Vaticana became the first official Vatican sports association. Its members are Vatican employees and citizens.
