At his General Audience, the Pope said that being a Christian means not giving up as soon as challenges arise, but rather, trusting in God's help.

He said this is put into practice especially when correcting other people. The key, he explained, is proximity.

POPE FRANCIS
'Many times this also means tolerating others' problems, others' defects, in silence and prayer, to then find the right way to help them correct themselves. And this is not easy. The easiest path is gossip, talking behind someone else's back, as if I were perfect. And this should not be done. Gentleness, patience, prayer, proximity.'

The Pope explained that this “proximity” is what St. Paul asked for when he said that every person should help bear others' burdens.

POPE FRANCIS
'How many burdens are present in the life of one person: sickness, unemployment, loneliness, pain.... And how many other trials that require proximity and fraternal love.'

This dancer gave a short performance while waiting for the Pope's catechesis to begin.

Among the pilgrims was Sr. Gloria Cecilia Narvaez, the nun who was held hostage for four years and eight months by a Jihadist group in Mali.
