Pope Francis meets with sheikh sent by King of Bahrain

-"Salam aleikum."

The Pope met with Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, a representative of the King of Bahrain.

“I am happy to welcome you.”

Pope Francis gave him a sculpture about peace, with the inscription, “The desert will become a garden.” The Sheikh was the Minister of Foreign Affairs until January 2020.

It was a very cordial meeting, though the topics discussed were not revealed.

The Sheikh likely updated the Pope on the construction of the Cathedral of Bahrain, one of the few Catholic cathedrals in the region.

The impressive temple is nearly complete, and many hope that the Pope will consecrate it.
