The tombs under the Vatican continue to impress visitors from around the world.
It's a feeling shared by this group from DePaul Universtiy in Chicago studying in Rome.
SHERYL OVERMYER
“There is really no better place to study church history than in Rome and really discover the roots of Catholocism. We start with the scavi and another highlight we visit Sixteen Chapel, and really everything between, very excited.”
They are in Rome for two weeks to study Church history, an enriching experience they say they will never forget.
SARAH WALTON
“I´m learning so much about like Catholicsm. I really didn´t know much about it before coming on this trip, but its kind like a deeper understanding and deeper historical reference of everything.”
During the weekly General Audience, the group got the chance to get close to Pope Francis, take pictures with him, and even shake his hand.
AIDAN MORRISEY
“It was super cool, I don't know, it's very unreal. It's kind of like: I didn't think I'd be able to, or anything like that, I don't know I feel like I see him on TV and read all of the encyclicals and stuff like that, you never think that you're gonna actually be able to, I don't know, kiss his hand or be able to say anything, or tell him, you know, your intentions and stuff like that so that was pretty cool.”
These students from America's largest Catholic university say studying in Rome is more than learning about history, its a chance to tuch it with your hands, and deepen the faith.
